The Insidious Perpetuation of FEAR-MONGERING in Conservative MEDIA

I'm shocked by the inaccuracy of so many hate and fear-filled statements on Facebook honestly. DO A FACT CHECK if you're thinking something horrible is happening.

  1. Former Conservative PM Stephen Harper Pledged to let Syrian Refugees in 3 years ago. CANADA USUALLY LETS IN 10,000 refugees/year REGARDLESS of the Fear-Mongering going on lately.
Prime Minister Harper has claimed Canada has been extremely generous in accepting refugees, the actual numbers tell a different story. According to the federal government, Canada usually accepts 10,000 refugees per year. That is 1/60 of one per cent of the total global refugee population. That’s like spitting on a house fire.
The Conservative government is fond of boasting that Canada settles “one out of 10 refugees” worldwide. That is an incredibly misleading figure that assumes only 100,000 (of the 60 million) refugees around the world are resettled each year.
In truth, we’re doing very little compared to other countries. Annually, we are letting in one quarter of one refugee for every 1,000 Canadian citizens. By contrast, Germany is expecting 800,000 new arrivals this year, or 10 per 1,000 citizens. If one compares the economic ability of a country to accept refugees, Canada is accepting one-quarter of a refugee per $1 of GDP per capita. Germany is accepting 80 times that amount, or 17.4 refugees per $1.
In January the Conservatives pledged to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees over a period of three years, of which Immigration Minister Chris Alexander reports 2,500 are now in Canada. Prime Minister Harper later increased this multi-year target by another 10,000. Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau has upped the ante and called for a target of 25,000. The NDP have been less specific, but Thomas Mulcair has said Canada is “not doing enough.”

  1. Read a history book. This Islamophobia is the same thing people thought in the 1940s when Hitler targeted Jews, Gays, Roms, Poles, and Handicapped People. Deemed both Evil in their tenets of faith, and scourges to the system and its resources and “true (aka. White) citizens”. AND back when Canada allowed Italians being persecuted by Mussolini to enter the country. Except it was Catholophobia which was spread by the media. And if you think it’s not the same sort of thing? North American & UK-BORN, And Immigrant Italians alike were sent to internment camps by the thousands - for several years - mostly men  (leaving their families often destitute) because Mussolini actually dared to declare War on Canada and the “Canadians already settled in” figured that the Italians would retain loyalty to Mussolini, Italy, Fascism, and Catholicism - at the time, regarded as a religion filled with extremists and irrational barbarians. Despite the fact that those coming to CANADA were doing so to ESCAPE the Nazis in ITALY. The Nazis were terrorising the Italian People courtesy of Mussolini’s Fascist Regime, and outright killing many - particularly much of Southern Italy, due to it’s diversity, dark-complected citizens, and a heritage of Italians which included many Tribal Greek Jews, Turkish, Arab, and Egyptian peoples.Guess What? The Italian immigrants would up paying more INTO Canada (through their productiveness and desire to be accepted - as is the case with nearly every immigrant) than they took out (allowing for the initial 5 year adjustment period naturally occurring amongst ALL immigrants) All this despite Italians being profiled (even nowadays) as gangsters, wife-beating, greasy, hot-heated, boorish, barbaric, uncivilised, superstitious, and loudmouthed “W*ps” (itself a slur born of  the bastardisation of the Spanish word Guapo - so instead of meaning handsome, came to mean a sneaky, sleazy THUG - Oh! The Word which is currently used to replace the “N” word as favourite slur for racists to embrace?). Nonetheless achieving financial success despite being fired from the jobs they were allowed to work in because of the “rights” of NON-Italians being afraid to work alongside people who were tied to the horrible religion and mindset of those who practiced Catholicism and came from a country where Catholic was the National Religion!!; those who threatened their freedoms as they potentially/likely were socially perceived to embrace fascist ideals and hence the terrorism being wrought at the behest of their old countries’ Prime Minister and Nazi Crony Hitler; despite being forbidden from speaking Italian in Public as it was against Canada’s National Language Officiation; despite being forbidden to gather in groups larger than 5 for fear of their organising and taking over religiously, ideologically, and criminally; and despite being. limited to employment opportunities which primarily consisting of manual labour & construction jobs (Sort of like how Mexicans are slotted into domestic servitude and migrant farmhands). Immigrants from MANY places are Usually highly successful after the adjustment period and tend to contribute more than they take.

  1. Some Terrorist Statistics in the US - the originators of the knee-jerk hate and fear  being spread about Islamic people ever since Americans learned there were more religions that their “White Jesus” posse:

They aren’t 80-95% of fit men ready to start  up new recruiting and active terrorist cells http://www.snopes.com/latest-starving-refugees-syria/ ; Rather they’re  Women (35-40%) who’ve been raped and widowed at the hands of ISIS, and CHILDREN under 11 (40%); Children immigrating from the only home they’ve known being brought in terrified, starving, and frequently injured due to surviving having had their houses burned down, forced to go into hiding for weeks, months, years, without toys, tv, friends, playing games with friends, nourishing food, schooling, medicine, a change of clothes, a warm bed at night, and even under the care of strangers because their parents and siblings were killed before their innocent eyes by ISIS!!

    • As Doug Sanders points out in his new book, The Myth of the Muslim Tide, conspiracy theories about mass Muslim migration are deflated by actual data. In 2010, the American Muslim population was estimated at 2.6 million. By the year 2030, it would be 6.2 million, or an underwhelming 2.7 percent of the entire populace. The Same Article also mentions the lack of scientific basis for the insistence that Muslims hate Christians and Women too. There are loads of People who DO hate Women - Muslims included. HOWEVER they certainly aren’t limited to Muslims. I’ve seen plenty of Christian Men Justify beating their wives as they’’re supposed to submit as per the Bible itself.

    • Middle-Eastern conflict isn’t CAUSED by CIVILIANS / CITIZENS ie.Palestinians, Muslims, Israelis, Jews, NOR by even the significant (yet largely ignored by Western Media) Christians. It’s CAUSED by Wealthy Corporate OIL Interests. Those of whom have millions -  billions! - with which to lobby corrupted & corruptible Governments (65% RW, & 35% LW) of a specific small group of Global Superpower Countries. Lobbying clears the path to making more money (via offshore accounts and tax-loopholes) in order to fund:
      • North American, Some European, and Israeli Military Occupation
      • the destruction of Journalistic Ethics. Buying & Uniting into Media Conglomerates with HAND-Picked ‘Journalists’ with the charisma & anti-scruples needed to spread  miseducation using the always effective trifecta of 1. FEAR,  2. MONEY,  & 3. PARTISANSHIP .   Motivating the Insistence of “X” causes “Y” is an oft’ used and effective tactic.
    • On Sept. 14, in an interview with CNN, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson falsely described the refugee population, and likely instilled unwarranted paranoia:
“But the fact of the matter is, we don’t know who those people are. And the majority of them are young males. And they could easily be people who are being infiltrated by terrorists and recognize that once you bring them in, then you have got to bring other members of the family in…” - Ben Carson, 9/14/15 - CNN
