An artist – the embodiment of all that’s good and beautiful. Love, Peace, Equality, Sexuality, the Space Race, and Addiction and recovery. Addressing each social issue in turn with lyrics both allegorical and poignant. Melodiously Heartwrenchingly Beautiful TALENT, wrapped up in an androgynous & asymmetrical gaze. A Gazely Stare, filled with warmth, wisdom, laughter, curiosity, and always far too cool for school without an ounce of affectation.
We’ve lost a Human who – Quite contrary to humanity’s destructive & pestilent nature – did rather the complete opposite.

Decades of his life were spent influencing, creating beauty, and making a massive difference on this planet. Lyrically, musically, collaboratively…
He inspired, he gave, and he made MY own life SO much better for all the sweet music. Music which was a nearly constant soundtrack to my life. Each event – the good and the horrible alike – could and hence WERE made brilliant and neon whilst accompanied by the appropriate Bowie track. I never faced a singular situation floundering about trying to find one to fit, as there was always a guarantee of one which not only Would but DID so – perfectly.
Each evening he played me out as I strived for slumber, and he even graciously featured in many of my hyper-vivid dreams – always the gent, naturally.
Each new morning (or early afternoon rather, as far too many people know I don’t fancy mornings) I would awaken, and the sunlight against the walls would help me find my mental Bowie for new Day’s mood. Heroic, a StarMan, an Absolute Beginner, A Vampire alongside Peter Murphy, or simply a whimsical Labyrinthine, fey and filled with art and creativity myself, and all because of David Bowie.

This went on without cessation for nearly all my 4 decades. I spent so much time meandering and pondering, insignificant as an ant upon a tiny blue spinning orb, blanketed in the dark matter, energy, ellipses, rotations, gravities, winds, and magnetic fields and I could avoid panicking over my insignificance as I was floating in my tin can cos I was encased snugly in the warm and satin-lined cocoon of every Bowie opus, note by beautiful note,
A prolific catalogue never sullied by fillers. Not once did the quality of his product become questionable . His music catapulted me into a lifetime well-spent, chasing the Bowie Dragon. Each piece, every time signature, story after story, and they all felt every bit as good as the first time I’d heard Space Oddity play in the car when I was a toddler. I had tried Bowie and I was hooked., and it was fine cos he absolutely NEVER had any terrible side effects!
He gave so much of his heart to our world through his art and the abundance is such that there will likely never come a day in the last half of my life where I find that I can’t get the rush of Bowie. I’ll never need to make a Krokodil Bowie, and I’ll never run out. There’s always another newly discovered reworking, a cover, a tribute, a dubstep remix, and an ironic “New Country” version waiting to pop out and delight me, helping me avoid the torpor and the darkness of my own depressed nature.
But to know that he’s no longer here with us? That he literally left us, against his will – friends and family and fans – because he became ill, all the while he very well Knew that his Death DID wait?
My devoted ears – cochlear conduits which brought me the goosebumps and the giddies induced by the gospel of Bowie’s every note, and shone golden light upon each recess within my brain – Amygdala quieted, Stem gently blossoming, and each lobe working in tandem, a well-oiled Rube Goldberg, steam-powered and rhythmically keeping a gentle percussive in time with the cadence of his distinct and dulcet voice and unique chord progressions – will never feel quite as happy again…
